  • Sycotic: Hormonal imbalance, nodular enlargement

  • Syphilitic: Tissue destruction in long-standing untreated cases

Scope and Limitations of Homeopathy in Hyperthyroidism:

Scope:

  • Effective in early to moderate cases, particularly functional hyperthyroidism

  • Can control symptoms and regulate hormonal balance

  • Constitutional treatment helps avoid lifelong suppressive therapy

  • Safe and non-toxic

Limitations:

  • May not reverse structural changes in advanced multinodular goiter

  • Not a substitute for emergency care in thyrotoxic crisis

  • Requires long-term treatment and strict follow-up

  • Lab monitoring is essential to gauge progress

Approach to Prescribing:

🔹 Acute Prescribing:

  • Useful in managing acute exacerbations like palpitations, anxiety, tremors

  • Remedies: Aconitum napellus, Belladonna

🔹 Chronic Constitutional Prescribing:

  • Based on the totality of symptoms including mental, physical generals, and miasmatic background

  • Remedies: Lycopus virginicus, Iodum, Natrum muriaticum, Lachesis

Auxiliary and Ancillary Measures:

  • Regular thyroid function tests (T3, T4, TSH)

  • Avoid caffeine and stimulants

  • Manage stress – yoga, meditation

  • Nutritional support: avoid excessive iodine intake

  • Eye care in exophthalmos

Homeopathic Remedies (2 in long form):

  • Glandular swellings, especially thyroid

  • Suits lean, dark-haired individuals

  • Often useful in early stages or active toxic phases

2. Lycopus virginicus:

  • A valuable remedy for hyperthyroidism with heart symptoms

  • Palpitations with anxiety and breathlessness

  • Useful in Graves' disease with exophthalmos

  • Reduces rate of metabolism and heart rate

  • Controls bleeding tendencies associated with hyperthyroidism

  • < At night, on exertion

  • Shows excellent results in constitutional prescribing alongside regular monitoring
